Day 3 - Dalmolin Airport, Vicenza

 

 

 

We discovered the Dal Molin Airport on the internet and thought it would be fun to stop by and get a picture with the sign when we were in the area.  To our surprise, the airport had been closed but the offices were made into an officer's club and the hangers had been made into a museum honoring Tommaso Dal Molin, a pilot and war hero.  

 

Claudio Bellot, the president of the Vicenza Frecce Tricolori club (pictured above with Kenny and Andy) told us that the group is currently in negotiation with the city about the museum's future location.  He offered to have one of the officers show us around and so we were treated to a private tour. 

 

                   

 

After our tour of the airport, we headed downtown to have lunch in the Piazza dei Signori.  Unfortunately the museum and Basilica Palladiana is closed on Mondays. 

 

 

                  

  Of course, no trip to a piazza is complete without gelato.  I tried the Italian mountain flower flavor called, "miele" probably comparable to honeysuckle.  Yummy!
