After San Gimignano, Claudia drove us to Capella Sant'Andrea Vineyard.
When we arrived we were given a tour of the vineyard and the process
of grapes to wine, particularly Vernaccia, was explained by our guide.
Francesco, one of the owners, dropped in on our tasting
to see how we liked the wine & food that our guide had
hand prepared for us. We learned that he and his wife
had recently had a baby! The wine and food was a delicious treat.
Our guide prepared a dish made from eggs. I think she said
it was a "poor man's" substitute for tripe. When I found out that
tripe is the stomach's of farm animals, I was glad we had the egg version!
When we returned to Tregole, we were given another wine
tour. This time at the Winery at the farmhouse.
Dario was our guide for this tour. He explained the history
of Chianti Classico and the strict production rules for obtaining the title.
His stories were mixed with folklore and facts.
We're still wondering which was which!
Inside the chapel at Tregole we gathered
for wine and ambience.
